A new program supported by the California Department of Public Health will allow teenagers throughout various parts of the state to order condoms online for free.

The initiative, launched on Tuesday and available through TeenSource.org, a website that provides information about safe sex for California teenagers, will be available for individuals ages 12-19 in Alameda, Sacramento, Kern, San Joaquin and parts of San Francisco counties.

      According to theBakersfield Californian
, the effort marks an attempt to tackle "alarmingly high" rates of STDs and teen pregnancies in certain regions.

With the 2012 US Elections pending, and candidate campaigns raging in full force across the continent, millions of Americans are now considering the options their nation has to keep its economy afloat and sustainable.

It's likely that the number of 'floating' voters will not differ from previous years - that the number of voters who'll make last-minute decisions on whether they'll vote Republican or Democrat - will not significantly increase.

The media, as we receive it here in New Zealand, continues to highlight that deep divides exist in the way American's think about the 'What's Next' for their nation.

At GBLCG.com World Group on Facebook I open the floor to you, inviting you to give a personalised account on the 2012 Presidential Elections and to shed light on that question: "What, do you think, are the three things the next U.S. Presidency should be most fearful about?"

Although I cannot consider the topic descriptive of my personal situation I recently have thought lots about the challenges many of our friends are facing as single parents.

Now the topic of single-parenting has been breached, in my mind at least, countless questions continue to spring forth on how single mums and dads achieve to succeed -- both at home and at work.

If you are a single parent, how do you ‘survive?’ Is it just a matter of giving 100% of your best at all times, knowing you only can row your boat with the paddles you’ve been given? Is that survival determined by the relentlessness by which you build support networks? If it’s about down-scaling lifestyle, ambitions and aspirations – how do you select which ones should ‘go’?

If something like a Social Style Guide for Facebook exists – I haven’t seen it. It would serve some of my Friends, some of whom will be deprived from my friendship in the shortest possible future imaginable. I would have thought that some of the most basic forms of social etiquette also applied to the way we interact online.

      Obviously, it’s not that clear…

I will be the first one to admit that my social network conduct may not always been top-notch either. As you remember, as recent as last week I was tarred and feathered as a spammer by one of my Facebook ‘Friends’ who clearly objected to receiving a link-carrying message from me.

The Facebook Team berated me previously for sending too many Friend Requests in one go, also accusing me of either being an automated ‘thing’ that spat out requests at random, or someone who was just looking to bump-up his Friend List by sending invites to any soul who happen to pass by at the time.

So much for being organised and working from list to do exactly what Facebook didn’t want me to do: sending too many invites in a too short space of time.

In Facebook’s world being too efficient can make one look suspicious.

What is the one thing an online community builder shouldn’t do? To complicate entry processes. It sounds obvious – it’s something retailers and hoteliers have known for centuries – but the venom sits in the word ‘complicate’. The trade-offs that must be made are complex by themselves..

I raise this topic to share with you some of the experiences I’ve gained over the last couple of months in building, developing and promoting GBLCG.com. The one all-encompassing objective I worked towards was to make this site an attractive and preferred destination for Facebook Friends who want to exchange and share information that can help them advance their personal and professional objectives.

Because I work best when I can measure my performance against targets I plotted graphed the ‘where I want to be’s’ on an A3-sized sheet and stuck that above my desk. Each week I took stock of my membership and plotted results manually against a target growth line. To my surprise, the lines kept pace, which made me think that I under-rated my targets.

I solved that last weekend by posting a much more challenging graph, which now shows that I am actually under-performing in the Membership Gaining stakes.

For long I believed in the concept of Open Source – the power of like-minded and same-focus communities to create and develop ‘New’.

Partially, it was this belief that drove me to establish GBLCG.com as a platform where a global community could ideate not just new futures but better ones.

Now that GBLCG.com has reached a level of technical maturity it’s time for me to put my thoughts into action. And I am going to be bold about it…

I am going to give three people the opportunity to host their ‘own’ forum spaces here at GBLCG.com – for free.

To me, that’s a bit like giving your first-born away. I’ll be taking a huge leap of faith in three persons who I believe have what it take to move GBLCG.com forward. As such, I will carefully select those three, although I have only vague ideas at this stage on how to do this.

I envisage that candidates must post their ideas on the topic(s) they want to run in their GBLCG.com forum space. Winners will be chosen based on the number of ‘Likes’ they received, the number of page views they generated and based on my own verdict.

Although LinkedIn was the first ‘professional social network’ we worked with individually we never established a specific GBLCG.com Group like so many of our industry colleagues.

Currently, the jury is still out on whether we should still take that step. Proponents among us say that this will increase our ability to amass membership for GBLCG.com, whereas opponents feel that opening and managing group discussions at LinkedIn may detract us from managing debates held here at GBLCG.com, which is one of our prime objectives.

Meanwhile, we established individual accounts to monitor discussions and debates held among LinkedIn members in other groups. This enabled us to identify what was on LinkedIn member’s minds, which problems, challenges and issues they tried to tackle, and how members connected to each other.

Interestingly, we learnt from LinkedIn what we didn’t want to be – how we, as a community – wanted to remain different. Now, we have very clear and shared views on this.

LinkedIn also enables us to keep track of what’s going on in this job search and recruitment network. As with our BranchOut and BeKnown presence, we aim to leverage LinkedIn network’s membership to accelerate the development of new connections with other LinkedIn account holders.

As LinkedIn allows us to view the resume’s of other members the application helps us to find and select high-quality membership for GBLCG.com.

Our GBLCG.com LikeList Page enables you to expand your Facebook Friend networks by leveraging YouTube’s treasure trove.

Although the page is a third-party application and operates outside Facebook’s domain it is intrinsically and securely linked to Facebook’s platform. Updates to GBLCG.com’s LikeList Page are automatically forwarded to Facebook where they appear as Wall Posts. Wall Posts only appear on the Facebook Wall of the person who published a new entry on the LikeList Page.

In many respects, the GBLCG.com LikeList Page acts and behaves like Facebook. Posts can be uploaded by anyone, which others can comment on and ‘Like’. Both comments and ‘Like’ notifications are posted immediately on Facebook, enticing other Friends to respond to a LikeList entry. This allows the person who published a LikeList Page post to continue separate conversations on the post – one at Facebook and one on the LikeList Page.
