In this blog I tell of a few instances where Facebook Friends acted and behaved in ways that upset others. Perhaps because online etiquette - ways by which we are expected to interact socially throughout cyberspace - doesn't seem to be defined at all we just make up the rules as we go.

Essentially, the question to tackle here is: What shouldn't you do online; what are Facebook Friend's most annoying habits?

I am just not sure how much 'culture' has to do with this, knowing first-hand that what may be completely acceptable in one part of the world may be utterly offending in another. Perhaps you have a view on this, as well as the influence of age, socio-economics and religious beliefs.

For you to nut-out below - I'd love to hear your views and opinions on this. Also, if you have any stories to tell about how any behavioural 'incidents' - don't hold back. We're always in for a laugh.

    Great post Raymond,
I think part of the mixup is the acceptability of practice. For example, in the US, if a phone number is posted, that means you will accept a call from anyone (however not necessarily at 3:00 AM!). I have been told from a couple contacts from Australia that this is NOT acceptable behavior unless personally invited to call.
Maybe Facebook (or us personally) should post on our walls what we deem 'acceptable behaviour' for anyone wanting to 'befriend' us? Will this stop the spammers? No, but it may help us get started on the right foot when attempting to connect with someone we want to connect with and not end up- alienating the contact before we had even had a chance to connect.

'Friends' pinging incessantly within short periods of time certainly hits as #1 for me, especially when they expect immediate response when they know you're online.

Then there's obviously the unsolicited posting of stuff on other people's wall - often done through attaching your name through tags to photo's that are more important to the poster than to the 'recipient.'

I think MKWeb's idea on publishing some sort of Code of Conduct is a great one - though I wonder whether people will actually read it...

Must be more, but I can't think of much else...
